Seasonal Verse

[Firefly]

‘Tis four o’clock on Christmas morn, an inky starlit night
The living room's in silence; dark, save firelight
The Christmas tree stands in the corner, reaching for the ceiling
Christmas pressies underneath, wrapped up and so appealing

In flannelette pyjamas, she tiptoes down the stair
Fluffy slippers on her feet, and pigtails in her hair
She slips into the darkened room, then kneels beneath the tree
She's searching through those pretty gifts, “Which one could be for me?”

Alas she cannot find it, “Where CAN my pressie be?”
She hears a noise behind her, and turns around to see….
A man in red, with big white beard, is sat upon a seat
A Christmas present in his hand, black boots upon his feet

“Is this what you were looking for?”, he asks her with a smile,
“Yes.” she whispers guiltily, just like a naughty child,
“But you should be in bed asleep, this is a naughty prank,
Before you get your present, you must get a Christmas spank”.

She straightens up on shaky legs still feeling two foot three
Then walks across to Santa Claus, and bends across his knee

“First we’ll have these pj’s down”, he says, his eyes a' twinkle
