Why not try two parties. Yes I know this will mean a lot more work for you and your helpers. Maybe one before Christmas and one in the New Year. I don't mind helping out at either party.

Yes, that would be a very good idea, as a lot of people can't travel with food and others never think about bringing anything.

Having said that I am very happy to bring food to share and my own soft drinks.
